Perhaps, no game is so exciting as the game of football is! It was introduced in our country by the English.Now-a-days it is played all over the world.
The game is played in a large field. There are two posts each of the two opposite ends of the field. They are eight yards apart and have a bar on them. the field is marked by a demarkation line on four sides.
The game is played between two teams of eleven players on each side. Of the eleven players one is the goal-keeper. He stands inside the goal post to defend the goal on his side. Two full-backs stand infront of the goal-keeper.The three half-backs and five forwards lead the attack towards the opposite goal. The half-backs engage themselves in both the attack and the defence.A football is placed at the centre. As soon as the referee blows the whistle, the play begins.
The game played according to some rules. Every player must abide by the rule. There is a referee who conducts the game and his decision is final in all matters in the field. There are two linesmen who help the referee to conduct the game. Only the goal-keeper can touch the ball with his hands. If any player breaks the rule he is penalised and a free kick is awarded against his team. The team which can score more goals is the winner. When each team scores no goals or equal number of goals the ends in a draw.
The game of football teaches us the principal of obedience to rule. It teaches us discipline and team spirit. It makes a player prompt, cautious, careful, strong and hardy.
